Hello, Does the law of working hours per week which is 48 hours in India include lunch breaks?

The sum of 48 working hours per week is arrived at by multiplying the normal working hours per day by 6 working days ( 8 X 6 = 48 ) during the actual stretch of the week. The phrase " working hours" means only the actual hours worked whereas the work scenario actually requires some more extra hours and both combined together make a full time stretch during which the employee would be at the disposal of the employer from signing-on to signing-off. It is called "spread over" inclusive of the intervals for rest. As per the ILO Convention, no employee shall be allowed to work continuously for more than 5 hours without a rest of at least half-an-hour. Therefore, the normal working hours per week do not include intervals for rest such as lunch-breaks.

Dear Ms.Smitha,
The Labour welfare fund is supposed to be remitted with Government Labour Welfare Board, in every state there will be such welfare Boards. Once in a year (in December salary) it has to be deducted and remitted in January to the Board. in Tamilnadu it is known as Tamilnadu Labour Welfare Board
There are various benefits, benefits program are available with the welfare Board. It is duty of HR dept, not only remitting the fund and but also understanding various welfare schemes, program available with the Board and make use of the same to needy employees.
Regards,
SriSai
