Dear Friends,
My question is, one of my friend is working as HR manager. in his resume he has mentioned that he has increased production previous company.. when asked how he has done that, he has told that he has increased the production by referring through his contacts. but the interviewer said, he has only referred people to sell the product and this cannot be considered as you have increased the sales. kindly let me know which is correct.

Dear friend,

First and foremost, heading of your post is mismatched. Your friend works as HR Manager. In his CV he claimed that he could increase the production in his previous company through referrals. In that case the right heading would be "Probing of the Claim Made by Candidate During Interview".

Coming to your query. You could have given little more information. What is the nature of the industry of your friend? What type of production takes place?

Probing is important skills in interviewing. The simple questions that come to mind are how the job candidate could increase the production? What kind of referrals did he make? How many he made? What was the conversion ratio? By what per cent the production increased in terms of value and revenue? In fact if the referrals are made then instead of referring it as "increase in sale", why your friend referred it "increase in production"?

We do not know whether the interviewer asked the above questions or not. Therefore, it is difficult to assess who is correct. Possibly the interviewer was not convinced by answers that your friend gave hence he made his own conclusion. If the interviewer was not convinced what attempt job candidate made to convince him by quoting the numbers?

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
