Hello,
Greetings!
I am an HR professional working for a PSU. i joined in this company in the year 2011 as a Management trainee and its been three years since i have been associated with the organization. I am due for two annual increments which has been withheld on the pretext that my antecedent report (police verification report) has not come. Please guide me what should be done to get my increment. Thank you in advance.

Police Verification does not take more than 15 days to get the certificate. Even an employee can get his/her Police Verification done themselves. With regards to your Increment due, did they get your appraisal done please clarify so as to reply appropriately.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your quick response. Yes all Performance appraisal related formalities have been complete from time to time. this office is situated in W bengal and my home town is in mumbai. the employer has told me that they have sent the police verification from time to time. but my question is - police verification has not been a criteria as per policies for releasing increment. so suddenly there is an ad hoc change in practice in my case and the employer is adament that he gets a police verification. in our organization it is the employer's responsibility to get the police verification done.
Thanks
Debismitha.

Debismitha,
If HR is stuck with their policy then do one thing take the address of police station where they have sent your verification document, contact there and get it done yourself
get the report and submit it to HR.........
then also if they deny for increment then; some problem is there and you need to find out what that problem is..............
But I hope this should not happen to you.

Dear Sir
I have asked the higher management that i will get my police verification done myself. they say its a confidential document and cannot be given to me. it has to follow the due process. the fact is that the concerned person from the police station has already come to verify in my home town. what more do they want i really dont know. i am feeling harassed.

Police Verification is logged in the register of the Police Station who has verified, kindly get it checked from any of your family member/friends. If it is registered then your employer has some other issues with regards to your increment. Last but not the least police verification is not a confidential matter, it is only verification of your criminal and residence records. You can also ask your friend/family member to get the duplicate copy or afresh police verification done and sent it across to you which can be submitted to your employer.

I think you need to change your job soon
I do not understand why increments are dependent on police verification...
Unless ofcourse, you are in a very sensitive position.
It seems your boss does not want you and is looking for excuses to deny you increment. It's difficult to achieve anything under such a boss. Better Lok for a better opportunity

Hi..
As suggested by Mr.S.Banjerjee, you can change your job by quitting present assignment. Please see that until and unless you have a alternate job dont decide to leave the organization. As far as your increment due is concerned , if your performance is upto the expectation and no company can with hold the annual increment. The police verification re port is no way concerned to your annual increment.

Hello Ms. Debismitha,
Glad many people have tried helping you out. However, let me also add my points here.
1) Appraisal happens year on year and the police check would be initiated before an employee joins an organization (at least immediately after the joining).
2) Appraisal has nothing to do with your BGV (Back Ground Verification).
3) You can send out a registered post with ACK due to your employer with a copy to his/her immediate manager and the skip level manager. Tell them the facts and remind them about your rights (in a positive tone). Keep a copy for yourself and after a week or so, on non-receipt of satisfactory response, send out a reminder cautioning about further legal proceedings (Provided you are ready to leave the job).
In most of the cases the registered post itself should do. However, if you still need you can let us know.
Cheers,

I would be very curious as to how she will take legal action and on what grounds ?
I hope you know that increment is a decision of the management and not a right of the employee.
Under which section or act will you file a case against the employer ?
