DIFFERENT THINGS MOTIVATE DIFFERENT PEOPLE

Internal motivation comes from within, such as pride, a sense of achievement, responsibility and belief.

There was a young boy who used to come for regular practice but always played in the

reserves and never made it to the soccer eleven. While he was practicing, his father used

to sit at the far end, waiting for him.

The matches had started and for four days, he didn't show up for practice or the quarter

or semifinals. All of a sudden he showed up for the finals, went to the coach and said,

"Coach, you have always kept me in the reserves and never let me play in the finals. But

today, please let me play." The coach said, "Son, I'm sorry, I can't let you. There are

better players than you and besides, it is the finals, the reputation of the school is at

stake and I cannot take a chance." The boy pleaded, "Coach, I promise I will not let you

down. I beg of you, please let me play." The coach had never seen the boy plead like this

before. He said, "OK, son, go, play. But remember, I am going against my better

judgment and the reputation of the school is at stake. Don't let me down."

The game started and the boy played like a house on fire. Every time he got the ball, he

shot a goal. Needless to say, he was the best player and the star of the game. His team

had a spectacular win.

When the game finished, the coach went up to him and said, "Son, how could I[/color] have

been so wrong in my life. I have never seen you play like this before. What happened?

How did you play so well?" The boy replied, "Coach, my father is watching me today."

The coach turned around and looked at the place where the boy's father used to sit.

There was no one there. He said, "Son, your father used to sit there when you came for

practice, but I don't see anyone there today." The boy replied, "Coach, there is something

I never told you. My father was blind. Just four days ago, he died. Today is the first day

he is watching me from above."

Internal Motivation :

Internal motivation is the inner gratification, not for success or winning, but for the

fulfillment that comes from having done it. It is a feeling of accomplishment, rather than

just achieving a goal.

Hi,

Well that was a great piece of motivational thought. It strengthens the thought of initiating a process whereby u know the employees u r working with and identifying their weaknesses and strong points and identifying the motivational process which would boost up the particular employee to perform at his / her best. In HR when you are coordinating with people and are always concerned to develop and maintain the best workforce around then u need to continuously upgrade their knowledge and motivate to give their best.

To motivate different person in a organization to work to achieve the common organizational goals is a very difficult process and iff HR wants to achieve it, it needs to give a special thought in identifying the motivational techniques which would motivate most of the employees. Because in an organization you can adopt the methods for motivating each individual employee but one needs to identify the techniques which atleast can enforce the motivational thoughts in the minds of employees and they feel related to the organization and are ready to put their best efforts.

As per the needs theory people in different strata have different needs and accordingly if they r satisfied it results in best output.

But it is also true that for the star employees which we know r best and to retain them we need to employ the motivational techniques which r relevant to them and which would enhance their confidence in the organization, so that they r ready to put in their best.

Overall the theory posted was a great example of the motivations that can push you forward to put in your best and its just a matter of fact that one needs to identify what it is and how it would motivate you.

Well I am aware that i have put abstract thoughts and am not a good writer too. But i personally feel that this is a good forum to interact with HR Professionals and though its my first post here but am reading others post for last 20 days or so and am really gaining a lot by reading the posts almost daily. Thank u all for all of ur postings. 8) . Keep posting
