Who are entitled to the funeral expeses under ESI — only the insured employee or all other persons whose names are appeared on the ESI Card? Kindly confirm. JOY KUMAR DE

HI JOY,
If an insured employee dies, the eldest surviving member of his family or the person who incurs the expenditure of funeral of the deceased employee, is entitled to reimbursement of such expenditure subject to a maximum of Rs. 1,500. The claim for the payment of funeral expenses should be submitted in the prescribed form along with prescribed documents within 3 months of the death of the insured employee.
No other family member is entitled to use this benefit except the employee deceased acc to ESI act.

Dear Friend, To my knowledge, funeral benefit for the deceased family is Rs. 2,500/- or actual expenditure whichever is less. Regards, S. Achuthananda
