HI,as per my employment contract I can not join a company which either directly or indirectly competes with my current organisation for 3 years after leaving the company. Is this a contract lawful and valid.?

There’s no such contract valid as well as bonds are not legal in India but you must not be shared any confidential information to other companies or organization.

As per Indian Constitution, no contract can be made on human life. So any act passed will be void that says contracts on human life are valid.
You can join any company as an employee.
Take example of Google employees joining yahoo or other software companies. I think this rules is applicable to whole world.
