This is a restrictive provision given in the Factories Act and Shops and Commercial Establishments Act. However, the State authorities have been given right to consider this and exempt establishments from operation of this provision. Accordingly, industry wise and regional wise exemptions are granted. IT industry in many states are exempted from this provision on condition that adequate measures are taken for the safe working and transport of women during this odd hours.

Mr.Mohinder has rightly elucidated the position and for clear understanding the position, it is advisable to go through the case law. B.Saikumar HR & Labour Law advisor Mumbai

But the act still says that women can of work in a facotry after 7:30 pm without approval from factory inspector. Does the judgement over ride the provision ?
