Hi vidya,
An employee behavior is same for his/her work place. It didn't change company-to-company. But, if any manager or other staff is offering any gift or party or something like that to the whole staff or to the colleagues of his department, then its ok. Everyone should accept it, in case of gift and in case of party, it depends upon you. But, if somebody specifically offers you, then I must say, its not a good thing. You should ask, why only you? Though you are a women, you should more aware about such behavior.

Dear Friend
I agree with Buwan C Arya with regard to accepting gift from superiors by subordinate employees. If any good occasion is there, generally the management can distribute sweets to the employees officially and employees can accept the same without having any hesitation. In the similar way our colleagues or superiors etc may offer us sweets to share their happy movements i.e birth day of their near and dear, promotions, on getting professional college seats for their children etc.
But, if any manager wants to give sweets to particular female employee we have to think about him. In such a case, it is better to refuse sweets politely by stating that you do not like sweets or some thing else etc.

Hi
Just behave normally just the way you are, soon people will realize what you are. & one can always go by his/her instincts when it comes to giving a gesture or anything to a sweet offering or throwing a party or anything. As far as females are concerned they are very good at reading body-language & instinctive receptivity so females may judge a person more better then males {In general cases}.....

Hello,
If sweets has been distributed to every body in this office as diwali gesture, it may be acceptable some what still these sweets can be shared to people who have not afford to buy or to NGOs will be the better option, if sweets are distributed to only selected people, it can be distributed among office staff.
regards,
