Hi
I am an MBA Graduate in Marketing and HR.
I am currently working as Sr.Consultant in a private consultancy, its been 7 months with the company.
I am currently handling recruitments of Middle and Senior level managerial cadre positions.
I am looking at a future in SAP HR but what most professionsls in functional SAP suggest is that I should get more HR domain knowledge before entering into SAP.
What I would like to know is that how long shud I be in recruitments in a consultancy and shud I switch as of now into an HR Generalist role in a corporate.
Will I be considered for HR Generalist role if I stay too long into recruitments and that too in a consultancy..
Also what shud be my stability in this company?
Please suggest..........
Thanks,angela

If you are in start of career, get yourself comptetent in Recruitment,
If you feel that you are ready for a Greater Role, Speak with your management about your willigness & grow in the same organisation which will be strong career base for you,,,,

But recently shifted to a gp..here also i have started with recruitment bit gradually i am taking responisilities..
So the thing is it will atke time..
U will not get a generalist role if u only have recruitment exp.
So work hard i m sure u will get it..

thanks appreciate your time and advice...
there's not sufficient growth in the present company to grow as a generalist..so would you suggest to look out for a generalist role maybe after 1 year of recruitment experience......

hi,
I have started my career with Recruitment consultancy...Mafoi..& worked for 1.7 yrs. Though there I was not into recruitment.
But I got the opportunity to work in corporate a small IT company. In a generalists role. where initially 90% was recruitment.
I mean to say in the field of HR you need to have the knowledge of entire HR including accounts (Tax), Admin, Legal and much more.
If one have that determination and is keen to learn more and more. Nothing is impossible.
So its not that having a recruitment experience, its not the gate pass to enter into corporate.
Its all about how work hard you can do and effort & initiative you built to learn new role.
If you are interested in generalist profile and you have the opportunity, without giving a thought you should go for it.
I hope you can cope up.
Good Luck!

Hi,

I too had joined Ma Foi in recruitments, and it was a great learning experience, on the basis of which I entered a corporate, in staffing (a broder aspect than recruitments). I am a part of non-It and HR hiring in my company.

Thoug initiallly i had been interested in a generalist role like you, I am doing good here, I have started to like it a lot. But I am also open to look into other functional areas of HR, which i can get a break in my current company, for I have proved myself in my work here (I have been here more than a year now), and people recognize that here. But with 7 months of experience that too only in recruitements, it might be diffciult if not impossible to get a break in Generalist role. If you get it well and good, take it.

But, what I would tell you is learn as much as you can from your currnet role, like salary structures, offer fitments across levels and across industries, understand the various job decriptions, hierarchy in oragnizations, that will give you a good ground to project your learning and knowledge to get into a generalist role in future, because thats the first thing a generalist needs to know: organization structures, roles & responsiblities, and salary structures across various levels.

All the best for a fulfilling future!

Hi ,
You better jump into the generalist band wagon the soonest and then think about specialisation at a later stage.
Recuitment will anyway form part of your job.. as an MBA graduate what you need to put in practice is your global approach to HR Mgt.

Hi, apart from my above query I also have another question that as of now my package is 1.44 lacs that is around 12,000 per month but it is a private limited consultancy and the director deducts 1,200 per month under the SLA for 1.5 yrs to control attrition in the company.

The deducted money is given back to the employee after 1.5 yrs.

So my in hand salary is around 10,600 + the incentives but the incentives part also we sometimes do not get if the candidate leaves before 3 months from the client. Our next select is adjusted as a replacement.

So that means there are selects every month by me which is the KRA but the monetary I do not get.During the interview, my package was decided at this level because the Director said in this industry you get lots of incentives...But at times the clients are such that the candidate does not remain there for long...

So my current salary is 1.44 lacs and only 10,600 in hand after doing MBA in Mktg/HR plus contributing in major auto companies in Pune during my MBA projects.

Now my question is that what should my package be when I look for a job next in an HR Generalist role in a corporate.

My total work experience by now would be 1 yr which includes 7 months of relevant recruitment experience...please suggest and guide me...thanks in advance
