Mr. Ratnadip Sahu(fake name for example) is a sincere worker in Puja infotech solutions (fake name for example) in Orissa. He is working since 10yrs in this organization. He usually comes to office by 9a.m. and goes back to home by 5p.m.. After some days he is promoted to the heads of the department and he was over burdened with work pressure and day-to –day he get frustrated regarding his working schedule and couldn’t come back home by 9p.m. finishing his tasks. He married to Miss Smita Sahu who was a Bank employee.

Due to heavy pressure of work Mr. Sahu unable to come to home by 5 o’clock in the evening, habitually he became drunker and visited prostitutes without going to home. So his marital life was in trouble but he is an efficient worker in his office.

One day his mother met the HR head and put the grievances regarding his son’s problem.

(a) As you are the HR manager what will be the suggestion to Mr. sahu’s mother?

(b) As a good HR practitioner what are the HR ethics to be prepared so as to combat grievances like this.

(c) Is there any requirement for stress management or motivation classes for workers?

Can anybody please help me to have an answer?

Deepak

According to me in this case there are two issues first workload and second personal behavior of employees. I am separating alcoholism and prostitution from the workload concern because in today’s fast life and cut throat competition most of the people face workload and work pressure but they do not dip them self in alcohol and other bed habits. Now coming to your questions:

(a) As you are the HR manager what will be the suggestion to Mr. sahu’s mother?
It’s tough question I think there is need of open communication between family members and if required then help of doctor can also be taken for resolving the issue of alcohol and other sin.
So I will suggest you should tell employee mother to have open discussion with employee and take a help of Doctor if required.

Assure mother that you will do needful for sorting out concern of workload and pressure. You should nominate employee to work life balance and stress management and program.

(b) As a good HR practitioner what are the HR ethics to be prepared so as to combat grievances like this.
I will suggest you should find out cause of workload of employee. If the cause is quantity of work then you should check the option of addition of headcount or have someone from existing staff who can share employee work at time of workload.
If the cause is due to quality of work then you should provide training to employee so that he can do his work more effectively and efficiently.

(c) Is there any requirement for stress management or motivation classes for workers?
Yes, there is need for stress management, motivation and work life balance to training for all employees. This training must be continues process.
