what are the provisions of labour laws regarding welfare of women employees
From India, Hyderabad

The Maternity Benefit Act is exclusively meant for women. There are provisions in Factories Act, Plantations Labour Act, Mine Act or Shops and Commercial Establishments Act like restrictions on employment of women during night shift, provision of separate rest rooms, toilets etc, restricting engagement of women in hazardous activities and so on which are for the benefit of women employees. Similarly there is another Act to be enacted for which bill has already been presented, viz, Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment at Workplace, which aims to protect the women (employees, customers, students or other) who deal with a company. In the present situation, of course, an establishment is expected to have a Policy against sexual harassment as per the guidelines prescribed by the Supreme Court in Vishaka' s case.

It is a much discussed subject and is available in the website. It is not possible to give a single line opinion on it. Still, I would say that it is a mix of both a blessing and hurdle in Industrial Development.
