Could you please share your comments on conducting Interviews thru Webcam for outstation candidates, specially in IT Industry, with below details.
1. Is it professional?
2. What level (entry/middle/high) of candidates can be interviewed thru this mode?

Hi Emmanuel, Interview thru webcam is not very famous term in India but this is highly professional. Many MNC' s IT/Non IT are using webcam for middle level and higher level positions. Regards, Vikas

Dear Emmanuel Gosula,

Conducting telephonic interview, at least first round is not uncommon. Now you can conduct interview through webcam. What is wrong in using technology if it saves time and energy?

Replies to questions are as below:

1. Is it professional?
It is not a question whether conducting interview through webcam is professional, however, interview questions should be professional. Interviewer's conduct should be professional.

2. What level (entry/middle/high) of candidates can be interviewed thru this mode?
There is no restriction per se on the level of the candidate. In my previous company, Director (Finance) interviews senior level candidates though Skype. However, for junior level first assess their comfort level and secondly they should have their own laptop or should have access to laptop/system.

3. Do you have any idea about the IT comapnies who are using this mode?
This industry supposed to be torch bearer in usage of IT technology. Why you are worried whether "other" companies do it or not? If you are convinced of its efficacy then please go ahead and do it. Let others follow you. Don't wait for someone to take lead then to follow their footsteps! You leave your own footprints on the sands of time.

Ok...

Plus one to Dinesh.
Further, Emmaneul I think interviewing from web cam can be good idea and beneficial as it will save lot of time. Agreed, with Dinesh when he says its suitable with top level management. But according to the pace of Internet penetration in India, I am sure many more companies will start adopting this method of recruitment sooner.
I know about a company in Mumbai, which has a support call center with video chats.
So things are moving!!!

Hi all,
I am working as a Hr consultant for one of our clients and i m based at client side. We have to interview many candidates for higher level (Managerial role in sales).
Hence, we were spending too much in thier plane tickets.
I installed a good quality webcam in our small confernece room where we already have a plasma TV. Connected the Cam to plasma
Now we take interviews through Skype...
Thanks to Skype for such good clarity!!
Really its a very good and economical way to conduct interviews of out stationed candidates!! :)

  • You can use web-cam for interviewing, but it has some limitations. Video and audio quality is not that good. You may face problem of connectivity. Person who you want to interview may not have required hardware and software with him.
  • There are better solutions available, but they could be little expensive. You can go to nearby 'Reliance Webworld' where they have very good videoconferencing facilities. You can interview candidates of Delhi sitting in Reliance Webworld at Pune. Only thing you have to do is book a time slot with Reliance Webworld, they will confirm the booking after confirming time slot with Reliance Webworld Delhi. Then you can inform the date, time and venue of interview to all candidates at Delhi and conduct interviews.
  • Audio & Video quality of Reliance is excellent. Plus they have presence all over India, having presence in B and C category towns also. Plus they provide a very comfortable and soundproof place for conducting interviews. You can accommodate interview panel of 5-6 persons easily and you also have options of close-up, zoom etc.
  • If you are going to use this facility frequently you can negotiate rates with reliance.
  • If you have deep pockets, you can install entire videoconferencing setup in your office itself.

hey Emmanuel,
I am working with a pharma MNC in Mumbai as an Asst. to the VP - human resources...Weneva we have a prospective candidate from any overseas location, we set up Video Conference with that candidate. Currently we have Reliance Webworld as our service provider. To arrange the VC you just need to have the ISDN no. of that particular location dats it..Its awesum..we have personally experienced skype n we r not happy with its Voice Clarity. Try Video Conferencing and you will experience it for yourself..
Do let me know in case of any queries...
Take Care..God Bless!!!

Interviews can be easily conducted through videos by using webcams. This can be done by using InterviewBuddy Pro (https://www.interviewbuddy.online), which helps HR's to hire the right talent in a more efficient manner at a lesser cost.
