Dear Abhay
As per my understanding there is no separate clause regarding Wind Sock in factories Act.
As per Section 41B (4) of Factories Act 1948 its mandatory to prepare Onsite Emergency plan. Wind direction/speed indicators details to be included in this.
I am having detailed specifications about that.. You may can simply get the same from any suppliers... Just send a query and will get all required technical details...
If anyone else can tell more about the same please post your valuble comments.

Fear Abhay,
Statutes require use of windsock. However it never spells the specification.
It is an instrument for determining the direction and speed of the wind commonly referred to as a "windsock" which is mounted to rotate through a horizontal plane to indicate the wind direction and is characterized by having provision for also rotating on its own axis to indicate the force or speed of the wind.
So far the design or color for windsock is not specified by any country for industrial use though for aviation purposes certain countries have already established their specification. Windsocks used in aviation are installed as low as 10 feet and as such these are of no use to industries.
Safety recommends alert orange, or orange and white color stripes as these are considered most visible at a distance. Some use black and yellow striped ones which are of course not accepted for poor visibility.
Standard windsock measurement is of 18 inches to 2 feet in diameter and around 6to 9 feet in length.
There are solar or ac powered windsocks also available.
In India certainly no specification available for windsocks for use in industries and as such you can safely use a windsock of 18 to 24 inches in diameter and 6 to 9 feet in length in orange or orange and white stripes.

Dear Hansa Vyas,
Canvas is heavy. Canvas is also strong and durable.
You may choose even polyster if not nylon if there is no strong wind blowing all the time. In places where wind is so strong and windy all through the year only canvas will stay for few months. At such places with strong wind while the socks kick opens to a strong wind nylon will tear off too easily and hence canvas. There are different qualities of canvas too.
As industrial wind socks is attached using metal fixtures at considerable height grounding may be required to protect against lightening which will take care of static electricity too.

Dear Sir
Is that mandatory to use Wind Sock itself...
Wind direction/speed indicators are avilable in market which is more durable when compare to Wind Sock... Which will serve the purpose of a wind sock itself...
Please give you comment on this.

Dear Dilip,
I am a worker. I am a layman, now standing far away from your processing area. There is a gas leak, and I hear that siron too. As per safety instructions I had I have to move fast in a particular direction based on wind direction. Will your wind direction/speed indicator be of any help to me or not ?
If emergency plan for hazadrous industry is mandatory providing wind socks is also part of it and is mandatory.
