How often we have read that various companies are implementing hiring freeze and that recruitment activities are on hold and there is a drastic cut in recruitment budgets.
  • Do you think that it is the only way out in an Economic downturn?
  • Will our business problems be solved if we implement hiring freeze and cut recruitment budgets?
  • Don’t you think that on the contrary it will only hamper in company’s growth?
I would welcome suggestions from all Cite HR Gurus on this issue.

There are various areas that a company looks to reduce cost. Recruitement is one of them. However, recruitement freeze may not be an effective solution.
1) Appropriately difining a companies recruitement criterion and then recruting as per those guidelines is very important, which most of the companies don't.
2) Time spent to analyse a candidate's stability & key strength as per job requirement is less, hence we end up recruiting incapable or incompitant people.
3) Pay adequately and recruite less would attarct best in the industry, and will eventualy help in spending less time in replenishing more vacant positions.
A company develops when the people in the organisation develop. This means that existing people in the organistaion are capable of handaling more responsibility & are moving to the next level.

Thanks Anirban for the updates. I completely agree to you that rather than freezing we should be cautious while recruiting. In slow down we can get the best talent available in the market and one can capitalize on that as well.
