Hello Everybody,
I am a freelance recruiter yet to register with the service tax department. In the meanwhile I've made a placement and sent the Invoice to my client without any Service tax charges. However my client is requesting me for a service tax code, so that he can pay service tax to the government.
Can you please tell me about service tax code for recruitment and how do I find out what the code is?
I'm located in Bangalore, india.
Thank you,
Talentlead

You have to register in Service Tax Department, while you are taking service tax registration you have to submit required documents with ST No 1 and PAN Card Xerox Copy
Your service tax Number will be allotted depend on the PAN Card No
If your PAN card No ADCMF 8150 M then your service tax No will be
ADCMF 8150 M 001

What Biksham said is correct and you can proceed in the same manner.
However don't fool the employer with a worng service tax regn no. as it is a statutory requirement, and getting the service tax regn. will take at least 8-10 days.
The company may be asking for ST no. because they would have wanted to deduct the TDS as service tax has to be paid to the govt. by the provider(in this case, you) and the service recepient only reimburses it.
However, there is provision. You can tell the company that your receivable has not crossed Rs. 7 lakhs and hence you are not accounting for servcie tax. You can tell company to deduct TDS if they want to and in this manner you can even realise your invoice amount.
