Actually I was recently called by a company(X) for the post of an instructional designer.. although it's a relatively small company but is credited with decent clients.
But, somehow to my disgust, today when i met one of their clients(A) which is apparently a huge group i was told by client that we will be further going for internal client meetings within the company (A) but i shouldn't disclose my company's (X) identity and fake that i am an employee of company (A)... Somehow this process is beyond my understanding? I am sure there is some catch in it? Should I quit or continue? Hr Honchos help me out .. I am scared and i don't want to start my career like this. I am afraid of the consequences...
One thing is for sure that I want to be an instructional designer...but is it worth continuing.

HI
your your company is asking you to get into something which is quite shady please clarify with your bosses as to what exactly do they want you to do and why do they want you to do it rather than quitting quietly.

Your question seems to be unclear….What exactly you want you should come up with the same here… I think by reading your question many people would get confused what exactly are you wanting…Pls be clear, crisp and precise ….

Hi
Is your company asking you to get in this company and gather info about them?
Well in such case use your concise and you will be guided by your own principles in life and the level of honesty and integrity you have.
Why ask anybody? If your heart permits do it or leave it.

Dear Rebecca,
There is a concept of mystery shopping, which is a tool to measure quality of service. Mystery shoppers pose as normal customers to gather of information on products and services, asking questions, giving complaints etc. They then provide a detailed report on their experience.
Certain training companies also use this concept, with the knowledge of the client company, to get a detailed and clear understanding of the training needs and to identify real issues.
You can check with your boss / colleagues on this. Deciding to quit will be too early.

Dear Rebecca,
U have not mentioned whether u were told to do this by your superiors of company X or client A. Whatever is the case, you can surely ask your boss the reason for the same. It is then upto you to decide whether the reason given by them is ethical or not. There is a possibility that the client has mentioned such a clause before entering into a contract with your company. Do not think of quitting without knowing the exact reason. You need not be afraid of asking such questions to your boss.

Nandita

Thanks a lot for your help...
I was asked to lie by the company (X). Finally I asked my immediate boss about this strange practice, he told me that the sister company of the same group(A) has outsourced manpower for this particular project... but the internal clients within the same group(A) are unaware about this move they believe that the work is being done by employees of their own group... it's weird.... why would divisions of a one single group lie to one another:confused:...

You were given these instructions by the client Right?
Not the company you are working with?
If so I cannot understand your dilemma.............you will follow the instruction of your company, your supervisor/manager . Not the client.
If ,for whatever reason, you are confused go to your spvsr/mgr.
Just remember your loyalty is to your company.
