Generally long skirts and capris are not allowed . if a company is really professional it will not allow such thing. Even on saturdays one should wear graceful dress. A compnay is aplace where people work together and wearing such kind of dresses can distract others. Some times management will not pay attention if any employess wear such dress just because they dont want to be hard and they are sensitive. But its up to employees that they should maintain decoram of the organisation

It all depends on the Organisation’s culture and the mentality of the it’s employees.

I tend to agree with Nidhisingh_19's view on professional dressing. I admit that much of one's time is spent at one's workplace so one would enjoy using a varied attire but by dressing up in any way other than professional or semi-professional, one's only opening oneself to ridicule or judgement on appearance. I would be happier to look in control of the situation during client/candidate/colleague interfaces at work and wear casual clothes only outside of work. Capri is definitely casual :)

This is the one area Indian (I think preferably South India) should improve.
The funny fact behind such restriction comes from the organizations where they are NOT that much busy in their OWN BUSINESS. They have enough time to check what employees wear, with whom they spend breaks, whom they take with when they leave office etc....
The companies who dont have enough business to keep their employees busy, should implement RULES on such silly things!
(Sorry.... I am not aware of the working atmosphere of Indian Culture too!)

Dear Meenu,

I feel the answer to ur qn lies with u only. Its upto every individual to KNOW what S/he should be wearing where. Instead of going by led down rules & then following/breaking them we should ask our own conscious as to what should we do ? I am a doctor from India-a democratic country and no one can stop me from entering my operation theatre in a bermuda/dungaree, as my treatment towards my patient is NOT going to change,on the contrary I may be more comfortable in these clothes YET I shall be fully clothed bcos I have to discipline myself in wearing these to a beach and NOT to my OT.

why can't we accept our goddesses then in bikinis? Even my this statement here will invoke angry responses. We do NOt eat in the toilet do we? Will you allow ur house maid to come to work at ur house in open choli-knee length sari?(this dress is common with adivasis its their normal dress)

We as a society have accepted certain norms and they are always good in the end-Like watching a fully clothed bride with ornaments et all in a wedding ! I hope I have made my point.

So do NOT wait to follow office dress code diktats, instead make your OWN diktats and follow them. That way U,ur family,Ur clients AND ur office all will be Happy!-Dr.VSRege

I think nothing wrong with Long Skirt and Capris if they can be worn in decent way... still depends on the company culture and policy. Moreover, i should say like others they can never be treated as formal attire.

What is a 'decent long skirt'?
In the Middle East Long skirts are worn at work and look very nice. As for capris ---I have seen them worn at work too.
It all depends on the work environment. At IBM I have seen Combats. But these would not be acceptable in a bank.
However men would not look good in either nor would it be acceptable at work!!!!!!

I am not sure the dicision should be from the Management, as you know every management has there own rules and regulations. Please contact with the Administration department of the company that you are willing to work to resolve this problem.

Hi meenu,
Dress code is very important for office
no dress should not be awkward to anyone.
Following the dress code when starts is difficult,
but once the policy is implemented then it will give
the good impression to all.
thanks & regards
