Hi
The HR Dept ais generally very small compare to other depts in any organization. For ex a mid sized organization will have only 3 - 4 HR persons to handle all the work. So number of jobs in HR Area is already very less comparatively other jobs like Software Professionals etc.
Moreover whenever any vacancy arises, it generally gets filled by employee referrals or head hunting. Organizations also prefer this as they don't have to invest much time in searching profiles.
You must have noticed that normally HR Guys don't get calls for interview even putting their profiles on all job portals. In finding HR jobs, reference come on the top. So keep communicating with all and expand your network.

Dear Jameel,
On the contrary, there has probably been no better time to be in HR in India than today, despite the claims of recession. I think this slowdown is an opportunity for HR professionals to really look at realigning their strategies. Agreed, freshers may find it tough for a while, but then this is not just about HR - freshers in all fields will have it a little tough for a bit, so just hang on!
Fro your reference, I have attached here an interesting article by Arthur Carmazzi on how we can bring out the best in people during these times. This article has been taken from The Human Factor, India's first HR magazine.
