Am An HR Assistant operating on a construction project with little knowledge and interest in HR Deptment. Recently they started working till late which is not right , but the workers are enjoying it because they get to save on night meals since they are provided with meals and also paid overtime for the extended hours. My concern is the same group that works the 8 hrs are the same that are used to extend to almost 8 to 9 hrs and are to report early in morning the following day for six days straight. Please help me out i have a feeling something will go wrong on one of those operated days.

Human beings have a physical capacity and taking that into a/c working hours are fixed by enlightened states.OT is allowed with controls.advice you to check up local laws relating to working hours and explicitly inform your management. As if something goes wrong the local regulators will fall upon the builder strictly and directly blame them for overtaxing workers and caused accident due to fatigue etc.
So as HR play your advisory role in a smart manner and bring rules/laws on working hours to notice of decision makers and suggest alternatives like hiring additional labour etc.

Dear Marvyn
There are two aspects of it.
1) Legal- Legally no issue as such they are paid Overtime (twice the rate).
2) Health aspects- Yes over stressing can pose hazards
Since it is projects overstretching is the norm, so better get accustomed if you intend to continue.
