Dear Seniors, Can drivers be hired under contract labor act 1970 for company sponsored goods vehicle and employees transportation vehicles? Please give your valuable inputs. Best Regards, Pankaj

Dear Pankaj,
If the goods carriers and the transport vehicles are owned by the establishment and you require only drivers and cleaners for running them as per your requirements, well you can get the crew on contract basis from a man power supply contractor. If the requirement is 20 and more people, such engagement will come under the purview of the CLRA Act,1970; If the vehicles with crew are supplied by the contractor, it will not.

We can engage Drivers on contractors' roll. Only think I suggest, let the contractor issues an appointment order to individual drivers on 'fixed term contract basis', with specific mention on the clients requirement / place.
