Reshmi Subodh
Dear All,
We have been given an assignment to do critical analysis of the below definitions covered under different Labor laws of this course: a) Worker b) Workmen c) Employee d) Contract Labor.
Requesting your guidance on how this should be done.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Reshmi,
Items (a) to (c) generally mean persons employed for wages/salary, their connotations differ according to the purpose of the legislations in which they are used and therefore certainly they are neither same nor similar in meaning. Refer the definitions of Industrial Disputes Act,1947, Factories Act,1948, Employees Provident Fund Act,1952, Payment of Bonus Act,1965, Payment of Gratuity Act,1972, Your State's Shops and Establishments Act and the Contract Labour ( R&A ) Act,1970 and make a comparitive analysis.
