A convention of 11 Central Trade Unions (CTUs) has declared a nationwide strike on September 2 that will cover public and private sectors including banking and railways. The strike call is against the labour policy of the Union Government.
May I know how is it being perceived in Tami Nadu. Do we need to declare holiday ?

Dear Mr.Rao,

Trade Unions play a vital role in the economic endeavours of a nation being not only an institutionalized bridge between the partners of production but also as a vociferous protestor against the ultimate patron of Welfare State viz the Government when their policies of industry and labour is perceived to be detrimental to the growth of domestic industries and labour in the long-run. So, to draw the attention of the Gvernment and as a mark of the consolidated protest, it is quite common and universal that such call for nationwide token-strike is given by the Central Trade Unions. The general perception is that such token strike is though legal as the formalities of notice etc., as per the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act,1947 are observed by the affiliated unions, it is still an unilateral breach of the contract of employment on the part of the workmen attracting the principle of " No work - No wages ". If you declare holiday, apart from being a gesture of your support to their cause, it will ensure holiday wages for the day of strike.
