Dear Experts,

India is more states and Union Teritories but the Floor level peoples wages are varied from state to state why don't to make a uniform wage structure for all the Floor level people ?

As of now in India minimum wage is state specific and there is a disparity between the minimum wages of various states.

To ensure a uniform wage structure and to remove the disparity in minimum wages in the country the Central Government has proposed the National Floor Level Minimum Wage statutory and recently which is agreed by states also.

Once this new amendment come into force, the national floor level minimum wage will become binding on all states and they will have to ensure that unskilled workers are paid the minimum wages fixed by the Center. If any state wants to give more than floor level wages, they are free to do so.

This is positive move and it will benefit around 360 million workers across the country, most of who are from agriculture and other related activates.

Dear All,

It is nice that PBS Kumar has brought this content to this forum.

It would not be right enough to have a uniformity minimum wages because of the cost of living of different states and different place are very high and low. It would be not good if we bring the cost of living of cuttack comparing to mumbai or delhi and also guwahati.

Once this new amendment come into force, the national floor level minimum wage will become binding on all states and they will have to ensure that unskilled workers are paid the minimum wages fixed by the Center. If any state wants to give more than floor level wages, they are free to do so. This point can be considered as many states have to go for higher wages and in this case the centre has to consider lowest to highest and should declare inbetween minimum wages or the lowest wages so that every state can increase according to the cost of living. It would be more necessary that a minimum wage for all in uniform will be highly accepted by all subject to the first two lines of this paragraph.

Thanks
