basically an appointment order should contain the details regarding joining date, designation, reporting, location of posting, transferability, probation, salary with bifurcation, employee benefits other than salary, termination clause, notice period, confidentiality matters, prohibition of taking up business of profits etc. It shall also contain the dress code, if any, office timing, leaves admissible and outline of what all are expected or what all are not expected from the employee, ie, misconducts.

Appointment letter should contain primarily the 1) position offered 2) Grade if applicable 3) Monthly compensation 4) probation period or period of contract if the appointment is for fixed period 5) Leave eligibility during the employment 6) separation clause for either party 7)confidentiality clause 8) jurisdiction clause in case of dispute.
